Zarathustra's Sunset
This was done from a photo reference used with permission by Gavin Banns
(Zarathustra, on WetCanvas!). The subject is an old farm that was
converted into an office park called Narborough Wood Park, in Enderby,
England. The image of a winter sunset really appealed to me; the sky
seemed to make everything in the scene a shade of orange while the light
front on the ground sparkled. I used a limited palette to try and recreate
the image in my painting. This painting is currently in a private
collection in Illinois.

Blue and Gold Macaw
I painted this for one of the group projects at the WetCanvas! web forums.
The project was a monthly animals/wildlife one, where a photo reference is
provided and everyone works in whatever medium they wish. Being quite fond
of birds (especially parrots) myself, I couldn't pass this lovely fellow
up.

Deluge
This was one of five paintings I completed specifically for an art show in
Manhattan. The show had a theme of "Text in Visual Art," so I approached
this theme by gathering photo references of anything in the world around
me that had text already on it. The title of each painting then became
something in reference to the text in the painting. This was from a photo
reference of the Times Square area, used with permission by Dave Baker.
Anyone who's ever been to Times Square can attest to the overwhelming
nature of the place: Neon and billboards and signs that cover entire
buildings; every square inch of the place is covered with some sort of ad
or information or graffiti. I titled the painting Deluge, referring to
this endless flood of words.

fence, sky.

Spam
I painted this for one of the group projects at the WetCanvas! web forums.
The theme of the project was Monty Python. We were meant to create a piece
of art inspired by the works of Monty Python, in any medium we wished. The
Spam sketch was the first thing that popped into my mind, so I ran to the
store, bought a can of Spam, set up a simple still life with it and
painted it. This painting is currently in a private collection in New
York.

Broken Memories
This was one of five paintings I completed specifically for an art show in
Manhattan. The show had a theme of "Text in Visual Art," so I approached
this theme by gathering photo references of anything in the world around
me that had text already on it. The title of each painting then became
something in reference to the text in the painting. This was from a photo
I took in a cemetery in Tallahassee, FL. The grave was a child's, and the
stone had been shattered (by weather or by vandalism, I didn't know).
Someone had attempted to reassemble the pieces, and this was how I found
it.

reference of a Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory in Vermont, used with
permission by Dave Baker. I found the milk and cream labels on these
enormous silos to be amusing. The day was very grey and rainy, so those
are storm clouds in the sky.

it Bait because that's what the words are - an enticement to reel you in
so you'll buy their fast food.

Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
This painting was commissioned by someone who saw the Oxford Churchyard
painting after it had been sold and wanted something similar. I went to
Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, which is not far from where I lived in
Westchester, NY, at the time, and took a large number of photos from all
over the cemetery. I wound up painting this one because I really liked the
pose of the statue, and I thought it would make a good focal point. I found it
interesting to paint this one after having done the Oxford one. All of the
gravestones at Sleepy Hollow are much more recently placed as compared to
the Oxford stones, and most of them are still in good condition. It gave
the whole painting a very different feel, despite the similarity of subject
matter. This painting is currently in a private collection in Texas.
